Another week has gone by in college basketball, and the Big 12 Conference has continued to make its case as the best conference in college basketball.
In the latest AP Poll, the Big 12 has once again a nation-high six teams represented in it, with those teams being Kansas at second, Houston at third, Oklahoma at seventh, Baylor at 10th, BYU at 17th, and Texas at 19th. The Big 12 also has Iowa State and TCU receiving votes.
As of games through December 20, the Big 12 has one of the three undefeated teams remaining in college basketball in Houston. With every team having played at least nine games, 10 of the 14 Big 12 teams have two or fewer losses.
Kansas State joined UCF, Oklahoma State, and West Virginia as the only teams so far to have suffered a home loss this season. West Virginia is now the only Big 12 team that does not currently have a winning record.
Let’s take a look at each Big 12 team and how they have fared in games from December 14 through December 20. This list is sorted alphabetically.
No. 10 Baylor (9-2)
Baylor started the season out 9-0 before suffering their first two losses of the season. They reached as high as sixth in the AP Poll before slipping to 10th this week and will likely be lower next week.
Baylor was handed the first loss at the hands of Michigan State 88-64 in the Motor City Invitational on Saturday, December 16. They followed it with another loss this past Wednesday in New York in the SentinelOne Classic against No. 21 Duke by a score of 78-70.
Baylor’s remaining nonconference games are at home against Mississippi Valley State and Cornell. The game against Cornell will potentially be their first at their new arena.
No. 17 BYU (10-1)
BYU has added one more win to its record since last week, with the win coming at home on Saturday, December 16 against Georgia State 86-54.
BYU’s remaining nonconference games are at home against Bellarmine and Wyoming.
Cincinnati (9-2)
Cincinnati has added another win and another loss since last week. The loss came to Dayton in the Hoops Classic last Saturday 82-68, and the win came this past Tuesday at home against Merrimack.
Cincinnati’s remaining nonconference games are both at home against Stetson and Evansville.
No. 3 Houston (11-0)
Houston is now the only unbeaten Big 12 remaining after some dominoes fell elsewhere in the conference.
Last Saturday, they added another win to the win column with a 70-66 win over Texas A&M in The Halal Guys Showcase. The win was Houston’s smallest margin of victory on the season.
Houston’s remaining nonconference games are both at home against Texas State and Penn.
Iowa State (9-2)
Iowa State has added another win to its record since last week, with it coming at home this past Sunday against Florida A&M 96-58. This was the fourth time this season in which they have topped 95 points in a game.
Iowa State’s remaining nonconference games are both at home against Eastern Illinois and New Hampshire.
No. 2 Kansas (10-1)
Kansas has added another win to its record since last week, with it coming on the road at Indiana 75-71.
Kansas’s remaining nonconference games are at home against Yale then a neutral site game against Wichita State at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City.
Kansas State (8-3)
Kansas State has added another loss to its record since last week. As aforementioned, it came at home, and it was to Nebraska 62-46. Their 46 points were their fewest scored in a game since 2021.
Kansas State’s remaining nonconference games are against Wichita State in the Wildcat Classic in Kansas City then at home against Chicago State.
No. 7 Oklahoma (10-1)
Oklahoma added one more win to its record before taking its first loss of the season this past Wednesday. They got a win last Saturday against Green Bay before losing to No. 11 North Carolina 81-69 in the Jumpman Invitational.
Oklahoma’s remaining nonconference games are both at home against Central Arkansas and then Monmouth.
Oklahoma State (6-5)
Oklahoma State has added two more wins since last week to get themselves above .500 for the first time this season. Their wins were against Oral Roberts 81-60 and then Wofford 76-70.
Oklahoma State’s remaining nonconference games are both at home against South Carolina State and then Chicago State.
TCU (8-1)
TCU has added one more win to its record since last week, with it coming in the USLBM Coast-to-Coast Challenge against Arizona State 79-59.
TCU will be participating in the Diamond Head Classic this weekend in Hawaii, with their first game being a quarterfinal against Old Dominion. After that tournament, they have a nonconference game against Texas A&M-Commerce.
No. 19 Texas (8-2)
Texas has added one more win to its record since last week, with it coming in The Halal Guys Showcase in Houston against LSU 96-85. Their 96 points scored were a season high for them.
Texas has three nonconference games remaining, all at home, against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, UNC Greensboro, and UT Arlington.
Texas Tech (8-2)
Texas Tech has added one more win to its record since last week, with it coming in the USLBM Coast-to-Coast Challenge in Fort Worth, TX against Vanderbilt 76-54.
Texas Tech’s remaining nonconference games are all at home against UT Arlington, Sam Houston, and North Alabama.
UCF (7-3)
UCF has added one more win to its record since last week, with it coming at home to Maine 74-51.
UCF’s remaining nonconference games are both at home against Florida A&M and then Bethune-Cookman.
West Virginia (4-7)
West Virginia has added two more loss to its record since last week, with them coming in the Basketball Hall of Fame Classic at UMass 87-79, and then at home to Radford 66-65.
West Virginia’s remaining nonconference games are at home against Toledo, then in the Legends of Basketball Showcase in Cleveland against Ohio State.
