Travis Kelce reveals he wanted to come to West Virginia, play basketball for Bob Huggins

On Travis Kelce’s most recent episode of his podcast, New Heights, Kelce said that he wanted to come to West Virginia, but not to play football, to play basketball.

During a segment on the podcast that Travis appears on with his brother, Jason, a question was asked of what each of the brothers would have done had Cincinnati not been an option, to which Travis answered for football it would either have been Cincinnati or North Carolina.

It was after this that Jason chimed in and said “It was West Virginia that you really wanted to go to.”

Travis then began to talk about Bob Huggins who was ultimately the reason he wanted to play basketball at WVU.

“West Virginia was where I wanted to play basketball,” said Travis. “I wanted to play for coach Bob Huggins, the legendary Huggy, Huggy bear. Cincinnati Bearcat legend, he actually played at West Virginia then coached there for such a long time.”

Travis then went on to say he’s not sure he would have even attended WVU even if he had a full scholarship, but he had fallen in love with Huggins style of coaching.

“I’m not even sure I would have went there if I would have had a full scholarship the first year I went. Either way I fell in love with how coach Huggins ran his program and knew he was a kind of a coach that I would respect and want to play for.”

In the end, Kelce would attend West Virginia’s Big East rival as well as the former home of Bob Huggins, Cincinnati, where he would transition from quarterback to tight end before making it in the NFL.
