Trio of Mountaineers selected in First Round of MLS SuperDraft

Major League Soccer’s SuperDraft was held on Tuesday evening, and three players from West Virginia men’s soccer were selected in the first round.

Marcus Caldeira, Yutaro Tsukada, and Jackson Lee, were among those selected. West Virginia was the only school to have three players selected in the first round.

Caldeira was picked at 20th, the highest spot a Mountaineer had ever been picked. He was selected by Minnesota United FC after finishing with 12 goals and three assists.

Tsukada was selected right behind Caldeira as the 25th selection by Orlando City SC. This season he also had 12 goals, adding nine assists to his tally as well.

Then, to close things out for WVU, goalkeeper Jackson Lee was selected 28th overall by LAFC. Lee had 66 saves this season and an average of .96 goals against per game.
