West Virginia Women’s Basketball guard JJ Quinerly set a new career high in points with 30 in today’s win over Wright State at the WVU Coliseum.
Her 10 field goals made tied a career high while her eight free throws made were a season high.
This game was quite a back-and-forth affair between the stars of each team, West Virginia’s JJ Quinerly and Wright State’s Alexis Hutchison, with Hutchison scoring 37 points of her own.
“JJ was pretty special too,” West Virginia head coach Mark Kellogg said. “For a while, it was a back and forth and it was just kind of let each one of those kids carry their team and see who can will them to win. Then JJ fouls out, so we kind of lose a lot of that.”
Quinerly fouled out of the game with 4:16 left to play with the game in a one-point margin. West Virginia managed to hold on without her 77-72.
“Honestly, I was just making my shots when I was open and then just trying to be aggressive and then with [Hutchison], she was on the night, so just trying to get her out of her rhythm,” JJ Quinerly said.
The win moved West Virginia to 10-0 on the season for the first time since the 2017-18 season, with one game remaining in nonconference play against Niagara on Thursday before Big 12 Conference play begins on December 30 at Kansas.
