The starting quarterback for the North Carolina Tar Heels, Drake Maye, has chosen to opt out of the Tar Heels’ bowl game against West Virginia.
Maye announced his decision in a twitter post, also announcing that he would be declaring for the 2024 NFL Draft where he expected to be a top pick.
In his two years as a starter, Maye accumulated 7,929 yards and 62 touchdowns to go along with just 16 interceptions.
Next in line for the Tar Heels is redshirt freshman Conner Harrell who appeared in just three games this season, completing four of six passes for 71 yards and a touchdown.
The Mountaineers will face off against North Carolina on Dec. 27 in Charlotte. North Carolina will also be without starting wide receiver Tez Walker and top linebacker Cedric Gray.
