When speaking to the media today, West Virginia interim head coach Josh Eilert spoke on the possibility of continuing the Backyard Brawl rivalry with Pitt.
Currently, this is the last scheduled meeting between the two teams since the two schools agreed to a four game deal in 2016 and then a two game extension was announced in 2020. According to Josh Eilert, “conversations are being had” about the possibility of extending the series.
“I think it’s good for both teams, it’s a good rivalry to continue on,” said Eilert. “Especially from a business perspective how could you not think that’s good for both programs. The conversations are being had between them and I fully anticipate coming to an agreement and extending this. It’s just not on paper by any means but those conversations are being had. It’s been a great six games, first was a four game contract, second was a two game, but it’s worked well in our favor thus far and I think it’s been good for both programs.”
The final scheduled meeting between the two teams will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 6, with tip-off scheduled for 9:00. The game can be seen on ESPN2.
