Jahiem White finishes 2023 with most rushing yards among freshmen

West Virginia’s Jahiem White led all freshmen in rushing yards this season with 792, the speedster from York, Pennsylvania has undoubtedly been a key piece of the team’s offensive success down the stretch.

White did not see much action at the beginning of the season (except against an FCS Duquesne team) as other Mountaineer running backs Jaylen Anderson and Justin Johnson Jr. saw more snaps as a compliment to power back CJ Donaldson.

White’s breaking-out party was against Central Florida on Oct. 28 where he rushed for 85 yards on the ground and added a touchdown in a 41-28 WVU win.

White and West Virginia offensive coordinator Chad Scott, noted that a change in his body language may have been why he saw increased opportunities compared to earlier in the fall.

White had three rushing touchdowns, holding an 8.2 yards per attempt average while also doing some damage in the passing game. He caught three passes for 110 yards and two touchdowns: the game-winner against Baylor and a 75-yarder against Cincinnati.

The Mountaineers will hope to retain White and look for him to continue to improve and impress.
