According to Mike Casazza of 247Sports, sources have said that West Virginia has been traded to the Duke’s Mayo Bowl in Charlotte, North Carolina. That game is scheduled for Dec. 27 and will kick off at 5:30.
The Mountaineers ended up in this position due to the Big 12 Conference having more bowl eligible teams than bowl eligible slots, while the SEC has one less bowl eligible team than slots available.
If put in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl, the Mountaineers would be looking at facing off against an ACC opponent. The potential opponents for this matchup are North Carolina, Clemson, and possibly Louisville.
