Beanie Bishop and Zach Frazier headline WVU’s selections on the 2023 All-Big 12 Team

The Big 12 Conference’s awards were handed out on Wednesday as Beanie Bishop and Zach Frazier headlined WVU’s honors.

Bishop and Frazier were both All-Big 12 First Team selections, while Wyatt Milum and Kole Taylor were All-Big 12 Second Team selections. In addition, the Mountaineers had 15 players named as honorable mention selections.

Frazier’s honor is his third conference honor in a row, being named to the Second Team in 2021, and the First Team in 2022. Frazier was one of five members on this year’s team who won an award last season.

Bishop, a transfer from Minnesota, finished the season with 20 pass breakups and four interceptions. Bishop’s 20 PBU’s are one short of the program record (21), and his four interceptions are good enough for 16th nationally.

Milum is in his third year with WVU, while Taylor is in his first as a LSU transfer. He had 411 receiving yards and four touchdowns this season.

The honorable mention selections for WVU were Aubrey Burks, Ben Cutter, CJ Donaldson, Preston Fox, Garrett Greene, Lee Kpogba, Mike Lockhart, Michael Hayes, Sean Martin, Doug Nester, Tomas Rimac, Oliver Straw, Edward Vesterinen, Jahiem White and Brandon Yates.

Seven Mountaineers were finalists for individual awards, with Bishop being a finalist for defensive newcomer, Cutter for defensive freshman, Frazier for offensive lineman, Hayes for special teams player, Martin for defensive lineman, Taylor for offensive newcomer, and White for offensive freshman.

Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy was named Big 12 Coach of the Year, while his running back Ollie Gordon was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year.

Texas’ T’Vondre Sweat was named Defensive Player of the Year. The Longhorns’ Adonai Mitchell was named Offensive Newcomer of the Year, Anthony Hill was named Defensive Freshman of the Year, and Byron Murphy was named Defensive Lineman of the Year.

Austin Booker of Kansas was named Defensive Newcomer of he Year, while Rocco Becht of Iowa State was named the Offensive Freshman of the Year. Ben Roberts of Texas Tech shared the Defensive Freshman of the Year award with Hill, and Tech punter Austin McNamara was named Special Teams Player of the Year. Cooper Beebe of Kansas State was named Offensive Lineman of the Year.
