West Virginia’s Garrett Greene earned the Manning Award’s quarterback of the week honors after his home performance against Cincinnati.
Greene, a junior, shined in multiple ways offensively on Saturday. He completed 12 of his 19 pass attempts for 210 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.
The quarterback’s claim to fame, though, is his effectiveness in the run game, which he put on full display against the Bearcats. Greene ran for 154 yards and three touchdowns in 11 carries, averaging 14 yards per carry.
The Manning Award, which is awarded by the Sugar Bowl to the best quarterback based on regular season and bowl game performances, names one quarterback of the week of a pool of its Stars of the Week. Greene was voted first among LSU’s Jayden Daniels, TCU’s Josh Hoover, Oregon’s Bo Nix, Appalachian State’s Joey Aguilar, UTSA’s Frank Harris, Wyoming’s Andrew Peasley, and Louisville’s Jack Plummer.
