The West Virginia football team started off the season 4-1, but now find themselves in the midst of a two-game losing streak after Saturday’s loss to Oklahoma State.
“During this time of adversity, all we can do is stick together and make sure we’re all on the same page,” says senior offensive lineman Doug Nester.
During the Oklahoma State game, West Virginia spent a lot of time going unbalanced and moving their tackles into different positions in order to counteract the defensive front the Cowboys were showing.
“It’s a little bit of a change, just coming out of a different stance and everything, but practicing it all week helps a lot. This is the second game we have done it, so I think it was a lot better this time.”
Nester is one of the more experienced players on the roster, having just played in his 50th career game on Saturday. Nester knows the fine line between winning and losing in the Big 12.
“Especially in the Big 12, all these teams are so talented, I say we’re so close from top to bottom, one of the closer of the power five. I would say it comes down to a few key plays, whether or not who makes the play from either team,” Nester said. “It’s always such a close game and who can make the more critical plays during those times and who can have less errors during those plays.”
The Mountaineers next game will be Saturday as they travel to Orlando to take on Central Florida, a team still searching for their first Big 12 win as a member of the conference.
“They’re a super talented team, haven’t got to much film yet, it’s just Monday so we’ll start on it later this evening. I know the offense is very explosive and they have some super talented guys. Defensively, I know they have a pretty solid defensive line and just the defense overall can do their job.”
