Full PFF Grades vs TCU

West Virginia improved their win streak to four with a 27-24 win over TCU. Two blocked field goals helped the Mountaineers get the win on the road.

But how did the individual players grade out?

This article will take a look at the Pro Football Focus grades from West Virginia’s game against TCU. The list will be split into offense and defense and list the grades from first to worst then discuss the notable highlights from the grades.

If you are curious about the special teams grades after those field goal blocks, PFF does not yet have the special teams graded. When they do, the PFF player grades will change slightly.

Offense

  • WR EJ Horton: 74.4 (9 snaps)
  • RT Doug Nester: 73.9 (65 snaps)
  • C Zach Frazier: 71.5 (65 snaps)
  • QB Garrett Greene: 71.0 (65 snaps)
  • WR Hudson Clement: 67.1 (50 snaps)
  • WR Preston Fox: 67.0 (24 snaps)
  • HB Jaheim White: 64.2 (18 snaps)

EJ Horton was the team’s highest graded offensive player this week. He hauled in one pass for 19 yards and managed to hang on despite being leveled by an TCU defender.

The offense graded out a lot better in pass blocking than in run blocking. Doug Nester was the team’s highest graded pass blocker and run blocker at 83.8 and 67.9 respectively.

Zach Frazier had his highest individual game grade against FBS competition this season.

Jaheim saw a season-high 18 snaps against FBS competition and was the team’s highest graded runner on the night at 66.4.

CJ Donaldson and Wyatt Milum had their lowest graded games on the season.

Luke Hamilton saw a season-high nine snaps at the fullback position.

  • DL Tomiwa Durojaiye: 76.4 (28 snaps)
  • DL Mike Lockhart: 70.4 (44 snaps)
  • CB Beanie Bishop Jr.: 69.8 (79 snaps)
  • BAN Tyrin Bradley: 69.3 (33 snaps)
  • DE Sean Martin: 67.2 (42 snaps)
  • LB Ben Cutter: 66.3 (47 snaps)

The defense as a unit according to the PFF data had 21 pressures, six sacks, 12 quarterback hurries, three quarterback hits, 19 missed tackles, and five pass breakups.

Hershey McLaurin was the team’s highest graded defensive player this week. He had a team-best 83.6 grade in tackling.

Edward Vesterinen had his highest graded game on the season and finished with a team-best 81.7 run defense grade. He wasn’t the only defensive player to have his highest graded game as Tomiwa Durojaiye had a season-best 76.4 grade.

Beanie Bishop had the best coverage grade among non-defensive linemen at 70.1 and had two pass breakups.

Sean Martin and Lee Kpogba tied for the team lead in pressures this week with four apiece. Martin also had a team-leading three quarterback hurries.

Jared Bartlett led the team with an 82.5 pass rushing grade. He had two pressures and a sack on the night.

Six players had a tackling grade below 40.0. Lee Kpogba led the team with five missed tackles and was given 29.8 grade for tackling on the night.
