West Virginia vs TCU predictions as both teams look to make it four wins in a row.
West Virginia hits the road in their first Big 12 road trip of the season, traveling to Fort Worth, Texas to take on Texas Christian University’s Horned Frogs.
West Virginia is coming off a hard-fought win in the rain over Texas Tech, capping a three-game home win streak, while TCU is coming off a home win over SMU.
Ashley O’Brien: West Virginia has reeled off three wins in a row and head to Fort Worth looking to make it four. The Mountaineers face a quarterback controversy of sorts, with the starter still being unknown until tomorrow. WIth that being said, I think West Virginia is going to have their hands full with the Frogs. The offense needs to get better and play at a higher level, but I’m just not sure if this is the week they do that. It’s been a long month, and a 3-2 ending to that month will have to suffice.

Wesley Shoemaker: Will this nice little run the Mountaineers have been on end when they hit the road to close out a tough September. Three wins was a win for this team in my head after five games and you are already at that mark if you’re West Virginia. I think the biggest thing here is will the defense travel and if they don’t how much do you get from this offense in order to keep you in the game. Ultimately, I think TCU will score and the Mountaineers won’t be able to muster enough offense. Keep an eye on how well WVU runs the ball early as that will most likely dictate how close things are with the Horned Frogs.

Aaron Parker: The Mountaineers have started the season just as they would have hoped, getting two big wins against Pitt and Texas Tech after dropping the season opener to Penn State and beating up on Duquesne. I like a lot about what this team has done lately, especially on the defensive side of the ball. The secondary had lots of questions and doubts, but they have stepped up in the last two weeks, along with the defensive line and linebacker groups. WIth that being said, I think WVU’s fortune runs out in Fort Worth, as the Horned Frogs can score the ball, despite not having the National Runner-Up team of last season. I think TCU will jump on WVU’s defense early, and the WVU offense that hasn’t been very tested in shootouts will not have the firepower to overcome the Horned Frogs on the road.

Patrick Reneau: I think this Saturday West Virginia is going to have to generate much more offense than they have the last two weeks. TCU is a high powered offense who know how to score points and if West Virginia wants to keep up they have to get the passing game going. I think this week they just aren’t able to score enough points that result in a win.Â

Mark Wratchford: As most of us know, West Virginia has a tendency to play better at home than on the road. West Virginia is on the road for the first time since Penn State Week 1, and is currently a 14-point underdog to TCU. I feel that the Mountaineers can cover this spread, but I am not sure if the offense will make enough plays to win outright. The defense has been much better since that aforementioned Week 1 game, but we need to see more from the skill position guys on offense.

Bryce Cohen: West Virginia takes a three-game winning streak into Fort Worth, TX to face Texas Christian University. TCU poses as WVU’s first tough opponent since opening weekend against No. 6 Penn State. TCU averages a staggering 38.3 points and 208.3 rushing yards. For West Virginia to pull out a win, they’ll need to keep it another low-scoring affair. In their three wins this season, they’ve held their opponents to 12 points per game. No matter who takes the snaps under center for West Virginia, they’ll need to jump-start their pass game and at the very least reduce turnovers. Nicco Marchiol threw two interceptions against Texas Tech and it only led to three points off the takeaway for the Red Raiders. TCU by far has better talent and coaching than WVU. After all, this team is a year removed from playing in the national championship. However, there’s an old-school grit to this West Virginia team that gives reason to believe they could pull off the upset. If they win the turnover battle and keep it on the ground with CJ Donaldson, I believe West Virginia can improve to 4-1.

Korey Moore: Coming off the Texas Tech victory, I don’t think WVU’s defense will need to worry about whether or not they can hold TCU to a lower score than usual. Offensively, it looked like Nicco Marchiol worked out some nerves during last week’s game that could be alleviated away from the Mountaineer fans. If Garrett Greene returns in the game, which I find unlikely, I still think WVU’s offense can take major strides this week. TCU seems a bit hot-headed as a team at the moment without any masterful performances on the field, and I think West Virginia will take advantage this week.
