Garrett Greene is expected to be the starting quarterback for West Virginia vs TCU on Saturday.
According to Brett McMurphy of Action Sports Network, Greene is going to make the start after missing last week’s game with an ankle injury.
Greene last played week three against Pitt, where he would exit on the second series of the game. Backup Nicco Marchiol played last week against the Red Raiders, as head coach Neal Brown said Greene was available in emergency use and not able to fully be himself.
“We’re going to see.,” Brown said of Greene’s status on Monday. “Garrett, he was available on Saturday but he did not warm up very well. He would’ve emergency been ready but we would’ve had to help him out. I really don’t want to play him until he’s fully healthy. He didn’t make a whole lot of progress from Wednesday until Saturday. He worked with our trainers today (Monday).”
“We’ll see what he has on Tuesday and Wednesday,” Brown added. “I really don’t have anymore than that,” Brown added. “If he can practice full go on Tuesday and Wednesday then he’ll play. If he can’t then it will probably be the same because then it would give him two weeks from Thursday to really get healthy.”
Since Greene exited, the Mountaineers have had 73 percent of their plays on offense be runs over the last two games. They’re facing a TCU defense that is second in the Big 12 in rushing defense.
Greene has 26 completions for 402 yards and four touchdowns through the air this season compared to Marchiol’s 25 completions for 213 yards and two touchdowns this season. Greene’s legs will also be something to watch to see how close to fully healthy he is on Saturday night.
West Virginia vs TCU kicks off on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET from Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas.
