Meet The Opponent: TCU Horned Frogs

West Virginia travels to face TCU this weekend, as both teams look to stay undefeated in the Big 12.

The Horned Frogs are led by their explosive offense, scoring at least 34 points in each of their four games this season.

TCU is 3-1, with their only loss being a week one loss to Colorado, 45-42. TCU beat SMU this past weekend 34-17, and took care of Houston the week before, 36-13.

Offense

TCU is led on offense by quarterback Chandler Morris and running back Emani Bailey.

Morris is a transfer from Oklahoma and is in his third year at TCU. Morris leads the Big 12 in passing and is ninth in the countr, throwing for 326.5 yards per game. Morris was supposed to be the starter last year, but after he suffered an injury week one abasing Colorado. Max Duggan would take the Horned Frogs to the national championship game where they lost to Georgia.

Morris has completed 69 percent of his passes this year for 1,121 yards and nine touchdowns. He’s also thrown three interceptions. Morris is somewhat of a threat on the ground rushing for 184 yards and two touchdowns this season.

Bailey is another transfer, who spent two years at Louisiana before coming to TCU last season. He appeared in 14 games last season but didn’t see a ton of time in what was a loaded backfield. Bailey rushed for 250 yards and two touchdowns last season, but led the Big 12 8.1 yards per carry.

This season he has continued his success he has 483 yards on 81 carries along with two touchdowns. He leads the Big 12 in rushing this year.

TCU has four wide receivers with more than 100 yards this year, and they are fifth in the Big 12, converting 44.1 percent of their third-down attempts.

Defense

TCU’s defense has had a mixed bag of results this season. They have the second-most sacks in the country with 16, but they have allowed the most passing yards per game in the Big 12 with 292.5. TCU is also good at stopping the run, ranking second in rush yards against per game in the Big 12.

Namdi Obiazor has 33 tackles on the season, which leads the team. Jamoi Hodge leads the team in sacks with four, while Johnny Hodges and Paul Oyewale each have three. It’s important to note, Hodges missed last week’s game to a thumb injury and has been considered week to week according to Sonny Dykes.

TCU is second in the Big 12 and 13th nationally in fourth down defense, holding opponents to a 27.3 percent conversion rate.

Sonny Dykes

Dykes is in his second season as TCU’s head coach and is 16-3 so far as the head man of the Horned Frogs. TCU has won 10 consecutive games in Big 12 play, which is the 11th-longest streak in conference history. TCU is 8-1 in home games under Dykes.

History

TCU won last year’s meeting 41-31 in Morgantown. WVU won four straight games prior to that from 2018-2021. The Mountaineers are 7-5 all-time against the Horned Frogs.
