West Virginia Volleyball lost to Loyola 3-1 in their second game at the Duke/North Carolina Tournament on Friday evening.
Loyola took the first two sets 25-23 and 25-21, then West Virginia won the third set 25-19. Loyola won the fourth set 25-20 to seal the deal for the Greyhounds.
The Mountaineers were competitive throughout the match but ultimately fell short in three out of the four sets.
Loyola had 53 kills compared to West Virginia’s 43, and Loyola had 56 digs compared to West Virginia’s 46. Both teams had similar hitting percentages as West Virginia hit .177 while Loyola hit .176.
West Virginia was led in kills by outside hitter Hailey Green with 15, in digs by libero Camilla Covas with 10, and in blocks by middle blocker Tierney Jackson with eight. Loyola was led in kills by outside hitter Lauren Kink with 14, in digs by libero Rose McDermott with 15, and in blocks by middle blockers Caitlin Churney and Kennedy Stevens with four apiece.
Up next for the Mountaineers is their third match of the tournament when they face Duke on Saturday at 4 p.m., three hours prior to kickoff of the football game at Penn State. Loyola will face North Carolina, whom West Virginia lost to on Thursday, later that evening at 6 p.m.
