West Virginia falls on the road to Virginia

The WVU women’s soccer team fell to No. 12 ranked Virginia 2-1 Thursday evening.

The Cavaliers were quick to strike with Maggie Cagill assisting Meredith McDermott in the third minute to make the score 1-0.

The first half was all Virginia, holding the Mountaineers to just one shot in the first 45 minutes.

In the 19th minute, McDermott found the back of the net once again to make it 2-0 Virginia.

In the second half, West Virginia began to find their groove on offense, having three shots on goal in the first 12 minutes but none were able to find the back of the net.

The Mountaineers kept the momentum going on offense and eventually found the back of the net in the 85th minute after Dilary Heredia-Beltran assisted Taylor White to make the score 2-1.

The Mountaineers were not able to keep the momentum going as 2-1 would prove to be the final score of this contest.

WVU falls to 2-3 on the season and will be in action again on Sunday when they travel to Liberty with kickoff set for 1:00
