West Virginia baseball welcomed eight newcomers in a talented transfer class

West Virginia baseball welcomed eight newcomers on Tuesday in a talented transfer class.

After finding success in the transfer portal since the portal became a recruiting tool, head coach Randy Mazey found talent to add to his roster once again. Mazey is entering his final year at WVU, and after breaking into the top-10 in national rankings last season, Mazey is looking for his team to take the next step in 2024.

Reed Chumley

Chumley comes to WVU from Houston Christian, and is an infielder. Chumley is a talented hitter, slugging 11 home runs and had a conference-best .392 batting average. Chumley was an All-Southland Second Team selection this past season, and will have one year of eligibility remaining.

Clark pitched in the Cape Cod League this summer, going 5-1 with a 1.80 ERA and 38 strikeouts. Clark has one year of eligibility remaining.

Hayden Cooper

A right-handed pitcher from SIU Edwardsville where he spent 2023 after playing at the JUCO level. This past season Cooper had a 5.06 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 18 appearances on the mound. Cooper was an Appalachian League All-Star this past summer and also has one year of eligibility remaining.

Ben Lumsdon

Lumsdon is an infielder who comes to WVU from UT Arlington. There, he started 51 games and hit .237 with 11 home runs and 38 RBIs. Lumsden is originally from South Carolina and he will have three years of eligibility remaining.

Luke Lyman

Lyman is a high-impact arm, who pitches from the left side. Lyman recorded 24 strikeouts in 26.1 innings last year, pitching to the tune of a 3.76 ERA. He will have three years of eligibility remaining.

Hambleton Oliver

Oliver comes from Big 12 foe Baylor, a place he spent four seasons at. A right-handed pitcher, Oliver had 73 career appearances with the Bears, finishing with a 4.37 ERA. In 101 innings he has struck out 86 batters and will have one year of eligibility remaining.

Kyle West

West is another Division-II transfer, from the University of Charleston. West is originally from Hedgesville, and this past year he hit .374 with 30 home runs, 102 RBIs, and 108 runs scored.
