The first iteration of the Associated Press’ Top 25 Poll was released in its preseason form on Monday and it featured multiple opponents for West Virginia, with the Big 12 being well represented.
Penn State checked in at No. 7 in the poll, WVU’s week one opponent. There were four Big 12 teams ranked in the poll, but WVU only has two of those teams on the schedule this year.
Texas was ranked No. 11 (whom WVU doesn’t play), while Kansas State was ranked No. 16.
TCU checked in at No. 17, as WVU travels to Fort Worth at the end of September. Oklahoma is ranked No. 20, and the Mountaineers travel to Norman in November.
Texas Tech was the first team out of the poll, receiving votes and being ranked 26th. WVU hosts the Red Raiders on Sept. 23. Other opponents that received votes include Baylor and Pitt.
