Former WVU pitcher Alek Manoah has been sent down to AAA by the Toronto Blue Jays in the midst of a struggling season.
Manoah, a former first round pick for the Blue Jays, has seen success while playing with the team since being called up in 2021. Following a promising rookie year, Manoah burst onto the scene in 2022, finishing third in the American League Cy Young voting.
Manoah has struggled this season, posting a 5.87 ERA in 19 games. In June, Manoah was sent down to the Florida Complex League. In July, he was recalled to Toronto. In his first starts back he struck out eight whilst only giving up one run in six innings,
“He’s our opening day starter,” said Blue Jays manager John Schneider. “It’s an unfortunate thing for anyone. It was a tough conversation for sure.”
