How good can WVU’s offensive line be? Just ask Matt Moore

West Virginia offensive line coach Matt Moore has high expectations for his group and rightfully so.

“My opinion is we’re as good as anybody in the country, that’s my opinion,” Moore said. I’d put them up against anybody as far as the athleticism, the length, the size. Now, we got to go do it.”

Anchored by three native West Virginians, the front five for the Mountaineers figures to be one of the best in the Big 12 and possibly the country due to their experience and versatility.

Having three guys from West Virginia’s big. Three really, really, good players that love this state and love the people of this state. And aren’t looking to jump on the next bus or highest bidder.”

Those three would be Zach Frazier, Wyatt Milum, and Doug Nester. The West Virginia trio has 95 career starts combined and will look the be the driving factor of West Virginia’s offensive success.

With a mobile quarterback, and a strong running game, Moore said he expects his group to be able to take games over.

“They can be dominant. I feel like they’ve got that mentality. But it’s always you feel like that mentality but you have to go up there against a top three defense in the nation week one, there’s no better way to find out if you’re going to be dominant or not,” Moore said. “We’re going to test it early and we’re going to see if we are what we say we are.”

Having that mobile quarterback option, is also going to help the offensive line. Moore says having a q quarterback who can run compared to a traditional pocket passer helps eliminate mistakes.

“We call it an eraser. Those two quarterbacks, they can erase some of our mistakes,” Moore said. “It’s really nice to have that eraser so if you do mess up, there’s a chance of getting your mistake erased with a guy that can step up and make a play.”
