The 2023 Preseason Coaches Poll was released on Monday, featuring five teams in the Big 12 along with four opponents on WVU’s schedule.
Two-time defending champion Georgia was slotted at the top spot, receiving 61 first place votes. Michigan was No. 2, Alabama No. 3, Ohio State No. 4, and LSU at No. 5 to round out the top five.
The Big 12 had five teams ranked in the top 25 with No. 12 Texas, No. 16 TCU, No. 17 Kansas State, No. 19 Oklahoma, and No. 24 Texas Tech.
WVU’s week one opponent Penn State checked in at No. 7 overall. Two more early opponents in Texas Tech (Sept. 23) and TCU (Sept. 30) were ranked in the poll. In addition Oklahoma (Nov. 11) was ranked as well.
