Big 12 officially adds Colorado

The Big 12 announced on Thursday that the University of Colorado is officially joining the conference.

The statement read: “The following statement was released today by the Big 12 Conference, through its Commissioner Brett Yormark, regarding the University of Colorado: ‘They’re back.'”

This is a big move for Yormark who has always been trying to add teams to the Big 12. The move is set to take place in 2024, and University of Colorado officials met Thursday afternoon to officially depart the Pac-12 and rejoin the Big 12.

“We think it’s time to change conferences,” Colorado President Todd Saliman said. “We are very pleased to bring to you today a resolution that would authorize the Boulder campus to change athletic conferences to the Big 12.”

This move comes after last month the Big 12 officially added four new schools in BYU, Cincinnati, Houston, and UCF.

Colorado Chancellor Phillip P. DiStefano said at the Board of Regents meeting, “a move to the Big 12 will set CU up for long-term stability and will also provide added exposure.”
