Jose Perez is back at West Virginia.
After entering the transfer portal, Perez announced late Friday he is returning to WVU for his final season of collegiate basketball. On3Sports first reported the news as Perez had gained interest from other schools such as Gonzaga and Michigan.
Perez sat out last season due to a waiver being denied by the NCAA. Prior to last season he averaged 18.9 points per game at Manhattan. Perez came to WVU last season after his then head coach Steve Masiello was relieved of his duties. Perez expected to play but after multiple waivers submitted, his request was denied.
Perez was granted the 2023-2024 season to play after the waivers were denied. Perez entered the portal as a result of the resignation of Bob Huggins, following his arrest for driving under the influence. Perez has been vital in helping build WVU’s transfer portal class, which still is strong. WVU features RaeQuan Battle, Jesse Edwards, Kerr Kriisa, Omar Silverio, along with Perez.
