West Virginia closer Carlson Reed was drafted in the fourth round of the MLB Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday.
Reed — who had spent the last three seasons at WVU — was a star out of the bullpen for WVU. A fastball in the upper 90’s, as well as a three-pitch mix of fastball, slider, changeup, Reed was valued highly on multiple draft boards.
Reed was picked as the 104th overall pick in the draft, and Reed threw 38 innings this year, compiling 60 strikeouts with a 2.61 ERA.
