At the end of July and in early August, West Virginia men’s basketball was supposed to take a summer tour to Italy. That trip is now being postponed, the team announced on Thursday.
It was just last Monday in which interim head coach Josh Eilert was introduced as the leader of West Virginia for the 2023-2024 season. The trip was supposed to take place at the end of July and into early August, however it is being postponed to next summer due to the coaching transition and the roster turnover which has occurred since Eilert became head coach.
“For the trip to be most beneficial to our program, it made more sense to defer the Italy summer trip to next year,” Eilert said. “A lot of factors went into the decision, but it became clear that getting our roster finalized and continuing our workout schedule here in Morgantown was the best course of action.”
As of Friday, West Virginia had eight players on the roster, four having departed for other programs, and one player in the transfer portal. This move gives Eilert and the staff time to continue to put pieces of the roster together form the transfer portal.
The trip will be moved to the summer of 2024.
