West Virginia men’s basketball is hiring Josh Eilert as their next head coach for the 2023-2024 season.
Eilert will have the interim tag according to reports.
Eilert was named the assistant coach to Bob Huggins last summer and was seen as the favorite by many players on West Virginia’s roster to replace Huggins following his resignation for driving under the influence last weekend.
West Virginia has lost three players to the transfer portal in Kerr Kriisa, Tre Mitchell, and Joe Toussaint, and many players on the roster favored a promotion from the current staff to the full-time position.
Hoppy Kercheval and Jon Rothstein were both first to report the news regarding Eilert.
Eilert will look to retain the roster, including a top-ranked transfer portal class as West Virginia now has clarity heading into the summer.
