West Virginia forward Tre Mitchell entered the transfer portal on Thursday night, and will be taking his first visit to Kentucky on Saturday.
According to Adam Zagoria and Jon Rothstein, the visit will take place Saturday, after it was finalized on Thursday.
Mitchell — who is 6-foot-9 and has the ability to put the ball on the floor — was the first transfer portal departure since the 30-day window opened for West Virginia’s roster. Mitchell’s recruitment still seems to be wide open, however if West Virginia wants to keep Mitchell around in 2023-2024, they must make a coaching decision soon.
Mitchell was not the only Mountaineer to enter the portal, as Kerr Kriisa and Joe Toussaint both entered and kept the option to return to West Virginia open.
Mitchell played in all 34 games for WVU last season and started 32 of those games. Mitchell’s play was inconsistent at times during conference play, but his size and ability to play multiple positions helped WVU. He averaged 13.7 points per game and 5.9 rebounds per game this past season.
Mitchell graduated from WVU this spring and is a graduate transfer, meaning he should be immediately eligible and not need a waiver. However, Mitchell has already transferred twice, once from UMass and once from Texas.
