Former Mountaineer ace and current Toronto Blue Jays pitcher, Alek Moanh, has been optioned to the Florida Complex League.
The Blue Jays announced today that their opening day starter, Alek Manoah would be sent to the rookie level complex league amidst his struggles. This news comes after he gave up six runs to the Houston Astros in just one inning on Monday.
Manoah, who finished third in the AL Cy Young voting last year has struggled heavily this year, posting an ERA of 6.36 this season.
“It’s not a knee jerk reaction,” said manager John Schneider. “Like I’ve been saying all along, we want to make sure we’re doing everything we can to help him get better, and we feel like that’s the proper first, initial step.”
The Blue Jays took Manoah with the 11th pick in the 2019 MLB Draft following his stellar junior season in Morgantown that saw him finish with a 9-4 record and 2.08 ERA over 16 starts.
