On Monday evening, WVU second baseman JJ Wetherholt was named to Lexington All-Region team, making him the lone Mountaineer to be selected.
Despite the Mountaineers not advancing in the NCAA Tournament, Wetherholt represented his team in a mighty way, as the sophomore went 7-for-13 against the likes of Indiana, Ball State, and Kentucky, while homering once and driving in four runs.
Wetherholt’s impressive NCAA Tournament play added to his historic season, as he finished the season with a nation-leading .449 batting average and a team-leading 16 home runs and 60 runs batted in.
Wetherholt has another season left before he can enter the MLB Draft, so Mountaineer nation will likely get to see head coach Randy Mazey build around the 5-foot-10 Pennsylvania phenom.
