By the Numbers: Lexington Regional

West Virginia baseball is one of four teams in the Lexington Regional this weekend. The other three are Kentucky, Indiana, and Ball State. We give a rundown of the four teams ahead of the beginning of regional play.

12- The seed for host Kentucky. Three of the last four 12 seeds have advanced to the Super Regional round of the NCAA Tournament.

19- Since the NCAA Tournament went to the current format in 1999, 19% of two-seeds have advanced to the Super Regional round. In 69 of the 368 regionals, the two-seed has advanced. 67% of the time has a one-seed advanced to the Super Regional round.

.443- West Virginia second baseman JJ Wetherholt is hitting .443 on the season. This was the second-highest mark in the country, and is the highest out of any team in the NCAA Tournament.

1- Kentucky had the hardest schedule in the country and rank first in strength of schedule. they had the second-best RPI, and their SEC schedule helped with their rank atop the strength of schedule metric.

17- Kentucky won 17 games in a row at one point during the season. That mark is tied for the second-longest streak in the country this season (Oral Roberts, 19).

20- Out of the 64 teams in the NCAA Tournament, Indiana ranks 20th in batting average (.298), and it’s the highest mark out of the four teams in the Lexington Regional.

81.76- West Virginia has been successful on stolen base attempts 81.76 percent of the time this season, and are averaging 2.12 steals per game.

4.4 –Kentucky is allowing 4.4 runs per game this year, which is seventh in all of college baseball. West Virginia is allowing 4.9 runs per game which ranks 22nd.

The regional gets going on Friday with Kentucky and Ball State playing at noon, before West Virginia and Indiana play at 7 p.m.
