The 16 hosts for the regional round in the NCAA Tournament were announced on Sunday, and to not much surprise, West Virginia will not be a host school this year.
The Mountaineers led the Big 12 for the majority of the season, but losing five games to end the year — including a sweep against Texas — put West Virginia in an unfavorable position and dropped their RPI ranking.
The only host team the Mountaineers faced this season was Oklahoma State. West Virginia took two of three from the Cowboys in Stillwater.
The SEC had eight of the 16 host sites, while the Big 12 had one in Oklahoma State. The Pac-12 had one host in Stanford, while the ACC has five schools hosting. The Mountaineers will likely be a two-seed in the official release of the NCAA Tournament bracket which takes place Monday at noon.
