Mazzulla shares moving message prior to Celtics game five victory

The Boston Celtics once again avoided elimination for the second game in a row when they defeated the Miami Heat in game five, 110-97, avoiding elimination and keeping their hopes of reaching the NBA Finals alive.

Prior to the game is when they made headlines, with their head coach — and former Mountaineer — Joe Mazzulla sharing an inspiring story about an interaction he had.

Mazzulla was asked about what being in ‘win or die’ mode means, and Mazzulla answered back sharing a story of how he met three girls with terminal cancer, all under the age of 21 years old and how that has impacted him.

“I met three girls under the age of 21 with terminal cancer. And I thought I was helping them, but they were helping me,” Mazzullla said. “Having an understanding about what life is really all about. And watching a girl die and smiling and enjoying her life, that’s what it’s really all about.”

The Celtics return to Miami for a pivotal game six, hoping to be able to return home for a game seven.
