GAME THREAD: West Virginia vs Texas Tech – Big 12 Tournament First Round

No. 3 West Virginia battles No. 6 Texas Tech in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament on Wednesday night. The Mountaineers took two of three from the Red Raiders just 10 days ago.

West Virginia comes into this game on a three-game losing streak — their first in the last two seasons — while Texas Tech took two of three from Kansas this past weekend. First pitch is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. and the game will be televised on ESPN+.

First Inning

TTU: Tech goes in order in the first inning, including a basket catch by Hussey to end the inning.
WVU: West Virginia gets two runners in scoring position, but Molina gets Leonard swinging to end the inning.
End 1: WVU 0, TTU 0

Second Inning
TTU: After a leadoff walk, back-to-back hits from Vooletich and White put the Red Raiders on the board. Hagaman issues his second walk of the inning — this time with the bases loaded — and Tech adds their second run.
WVU: West Virginia’s Ellis Garcia walks, but still no hits through the first time through the order for West Virginia.
End 2: TTU 2, WVU 0

Third Inning
TTU: Gavin Kash hits his 24th home run of the year to left-center and Tech leads by three.
WVU: West Virginia with a miscue on the bases as Tevin Tucker is picked off at second base to end the inning. WVU had two runners on and one out, but can’t get anything from it.
End 3: TTU 3, WVU 0

Fourth Inning
TTU: Tech’s offense is able to get to Hagaman yet again. Three singles, including an RBI from Hester put the Red Raiders in front by four.
WVU: West Virginia gets on the board in the fourth, as McNeely hits his 13th home run of the year.
End 4: TTU 4, WVU 1

Fifth Inning
TTU: It took Tech no time for Texas Tech to answer back with Green hitting a home run to right field off of Aidan Major. It was Green’s 11th of the year. Major gets out of the inning, only allowing the one run.
WVU: West Virginia gets a leadoff single from Suave, but Tucker, Wetherholt, and Wallace are retired in order.
End 5: TTU 5, WVU 1

Sixth Inning
TTU: Texas Tech got two runners on from a walk and hit by pitch. The Red Raiders had runners on second and third with one out. Maxx Yehl came on in relief of Major with two outs and balked home a run, before getting out of the inning. However, WVU trails by five.
WVU: Molina uses a nine-pitch inning to retire West Virginia in order.
End 6: TTU 6, WVU 1

Seventh Inning
TTU: A double play helps WVU work around a leadoff single, as Tech does not score any in the seventh.
WVU: The Mountaineers get one run back on a sacrafice-fly from Tevin Tucker. JJ Wetherholt flies out to end the inning.
End 7: TTU 6, WVU 2

Eighth Inning
TTU: Yehl works out of a two-out single, and retires the side without any other trouble.
