West Virginia’s Wetherholt named semifinalist for Golden Spikes Award

The Golden Spikes Award — often known as the Heisman Trophy of college baseball — released their 25 semifinalists on Monday, and it featured West Virginia second baseman JJ Wetherholt.

Wetherholt — who is just a sophomore — is the only Big 12 player on the list out of the 25 names. Wetherholt currently has a .447 batting average, and is the fourth player since 2002 to eclipse 35 extra base hits, and 35 steals in a season.

Fans can now vote in the fan voting portion of the Golden Spikes Award at GoldenSpikesAward.com, with the voting portion for the semifinalists ending on June 5.
