Recap of Big 12 in the 2023 NFL Draft

The 2023 NFL Draft wrapped up this past weekend and the Big 12 Conference had 30 players drafted in it.

The 30 players were the fourth-most of any conference, with only the ACC, Big Ten, and SEC having more. The Big 12 had six players drafted in round one after being shut out in that regard in 2021 and 2022.

Here is a recap of each team’s players in the draft.

Baylor

Defensive tackle Siaki Ika was the lone draftee for the Bears. He went to the Cleveland Browns in round three at 98th overall.

As for undrafted players, Baylor has had four players sign on as of May 1. CB Mark Milton signed with the Carolina Panthers, OT Connor Galvin signed with the Detroit Lions, S Christian Morgan signed with the Green Bay Packers, and TE Ben Sims signed with the Minnesota Vikings.

C Jacob Gall has minicamp tryout invites with the Atlanta Falcons and the Indianapolis Colts, and OT Khalil Keith has a minicamp tryout with the New York Giants. WR Gavin Holmes has a minicamp tryout with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Iowa State

Iowa State had three selections in the draft, with DE Will McDonald IV becoming the second first-round pick in program history when he was selected by the New York Jets 15th overall.

WR Xavier Hutchinson and DB Anthony Johnson Jr. were the other draft picks for the Cyclones, with Hutchinson going in the sixth round at 205th overall to the Houston Texans and Johnson Jr. going in the seventh round at 242nd overall to the Green Bay Packers.

Iowa State has had two players sign on as undrafted players, with those players being C Trevor Downing to the Pittsburgh Steelers and DE MJ Anderson to the Seattle Seahawks. LB O’Rien Vance has received a minicamp tryout invite with the New York Giants.

Kansas

Kansas had zero players selected in the 2023 NFL Draft. This marks the fifth time in the last eight drafts in which this has happened.

However, the Jayhawks have had three players sign on as undrafted players. DE Lonnie Phelps signed with the Cleveland Browns, OT Earl Bostick Jr. signed with the Dallas Cowboys, and DL Caleb Sampson signed with the Indianapolis Colts.

DL Malcolm Lee was invited to minicamp tryouts with the Buffalo Bills and New York Giants. DL Eddie Wilson was invited to a minicamp tryout with the Atlanta Falcons.

Kansas State

Kansas State had four players selected in the 2023 NFL Draft, with DE Felix Anudike-Uzomah becoming their first first-round pick since 2009. He went to the Kansas City Chiefs at 31st overall.

The other three selections were CB Julius Brents to the Indianapolis Colts in the second round at 44th overall, DB Josh Hayes to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the sixth round at 181st overall, and RB Deuce Vaughn to the Dallas Cowboys in the sixth round at 212th overall.

The Wildcats have had several guys sign on as undrafted free agents. QB Adrian Martinez signed with the Detroit Lions, WR Kade Warner signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, WR Malik Knowles signed with the Minnesota Vikings, and P Ty Zentner signed with the Philadelphia Eagles.

CB Ekow Boye-Dow received a minicamp invite from the Kansas City Chiefs, and TE Sammy Wheeler received a minicamp invite from the Chicago Bears.

Oklahoma

Oklahoma had five players selected in the 2023 NFL Draft. OT Anton Harrison was a first-round pick, going to the Jacksonville Jaguars at 27th overall.

The other players selected were WR Marvin Mims to the Denver Broncos at 63rd overall, OT Wanya Morris to the Kansas City Chiefs in the third round at 92nd overall, RB Eric Gray to the New York Giants in the fifth round at 172nd overall, and TE Brayden Willis to the San Francisco 49ers in the seventh round at 247th overall.

Five former Sooners have signed on as undrafted free agents. OG Chris Murray signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, DL Jalen Redmond signed with the Carolina Panthers, CB C.J. Coldon signed with the Minnesota Vikings, S Justin Broiles signed with the Chicago Bears, and P Michael Turk signed with the Miami Dolphins.

LB Deshaun White has received a minicamp invite from the Philadelphia Eagles.

Oklahoma State

Oklahoma State had two players selected in the 2023 NFL Draft. Those players were DE Tyler Lacy to the Jacksonville Jaguars in the fourth round at 130th overall and S Jason Taylor II to the Los Angeles Rams in the seventh round at 234th overall.

The Cowboys have had several players sign on as undrafted free agents. WR Braydon Johnson signed with the Buffalo Bills, DT Sione Asi signed with the Denver Broncos, DE Brock Martin signed with the Las Vegas Raiders, LB Lamont Bishop signed with the Seattle Seahawks, K Tanner Brown signed with the Los Angeles Rams, and LS Matt Hembrough signed with the Arizona Cardinals.

TCU

After not having any selections in the 2022 NFL Draft, TCU had eight selections in 2023, the most of any Big 12 team and tied for the most in program history.

WR Quentin Johnston was a first-round pick, going to the Los Angeles Chargers at 21st overall.

There were two selections for the Horned Frogs on Day Two of the draft. OL Steve Avila went to the Los Angeles Rams in the second round at 36th overall, and RB Kendre Miller went to the New Orleans Saints in the third round at 71st overall.

The Day Three selections included LB Dylan Horton to the Houston Texans in the fourth round at 109th overall, WR Derius Davis to the Los Angeles Chargers in the fourth round at 125th overall, CB Tre’Vius Hodges-Tomlinson to the Los Angeles Rams in the sixth round at 182nd overall, LB Dee Winters to the San Francisco 49ers in the sixth round at 216th overall, and QB Max Duggan to the Los Angeles Chargers in the seventh round at 239th overall.

The reigning national runners-up have had three players sign on as undrafted free agents. RB Emari Demercado signed with the Arizona Cardinals, WR Taye Barber signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and OL Alan Ali signed with the Minnesota Vikings.

WR Gunnar Henderson and DL Lwal Uguak have received minicamp invites with the New Orleans Saints and New York Giants respectively.

Texas

After not having any players selected in the 2022 NFL Draft for the first time since 2014, Texas had five players selected in 2023. RB Bijan Robinson was widely regarded as the best running back in the draft and went to the Atlanta Falcons in the first round at eighth overall.

The other four draft picks were LB DeMarvion Overshown to the Dallas Cowboys in the third round at 90th overall, RB Roschon Johnson to the Chicago Bears in the fourth round at 115th overall, DT Keondre Coburn to the Kansas City Chiefs in the sixth round at 194th overall, and DT Moro Ojomo to the Philadelphia Eagles in the seventh round at 249th overall.

The Longhorns have had two players sign on as undrafted players. CB D’Shawn Jamison signed with the San Francisco 49ers, and S Anthony Cook signed with the Kansas City Chiefs.

WR Tarique Milton has received a minicamp invite with the New York Giants.

Texas Tech

The lone draftee for Texas Tech was DE Tyree Wilson. He was regarded as one of the best defensive prospects in the draft and went to the Las Vegas Raiders in the first round at seventh overall.

The Red Raiders have had three players sign on as undrafted players. Those players were RB SaRodorick Thompson with the New Orleans Saints, S Marquis Waters with the New York Jets, and K Trey Wolff with the Tennessee Titans.

West Virginia

West Virginia had one player selected in the 2023 NFL Draft after not having any in 2022. That one selection was DT Dante Stills to the Arizona Cardinals in the sixth round at 213th overall.

The Mountaineers have had two wide receivers sign undrafted free agent deals. Sam James and Bryce Ford-Wheaton, the top two receivers from the 2022 season, have signed with the Los Angeles Rams and New York Giants respectively.

LB Jasir Cox has received a minicamp invite from the Philadelphia Eagles and CB Wesley McCormick has received one from the Washington Commanders.
