Late last week, West Virginia forward Jimmy Bell decided to enter the transfer portal.
This was Bell’s first season in the gold and blue and he started all 34 games for the Mountaineers. Bell then decided to try and explore the possibility of playing football this spring before ultimately entering the transfer portal.
The decision for Bell to enter the portal was somewhat of a surprise, but it also wasn’t that much of a surprise. Bell could have made the switch to football and stayed at WVU, but since Bell wanted to stick to basketball, him transferring seems to be the smart decision as the Mountaineers were dealing with a crowded front court. WVU brought in Syracuse big Jesse Edwards and retained Mohamed Wague and James Okonkwo from last season’s roster.
Bell took to twitter to answer all these questions that were raised upon his decision to enter the portal, as he addressed the post with “Luv Tunk.”
“This year at West Virginia has been filled with memories, love, and friendships that will last me a lifetime,” Bell said.
Bell then thanked the football program for giving him and opportunity to play this spring, but said basketball is where he finds his most joy playing.
“Basketball has been apart of my life since I was a young kid. Basketball is where my heart is, basketball is my peace and is what I love to wake up everyday and do,” Bell wrote.
Bell then confirmed that he will be earning a degree from WVU this spring, and he will always enjoy the people he met along his journey at West Virginia.
“Though I won’t be here for sports, I will graduate here and West Virginia will always be home to me. I’m forever grateful to have been apart of this amazing state,” Bell concluded.
