NCAA Tournament Projections: D1Baseball has West Virginia as a regional host

West Virginia baseball is playing as good of baseball as anyone in the Big 12 right now. The Mountaineers completed a 4-0 week last week, and are coming off a 14-2 thrashing of Penn State on Tuesday night.

With just about a month remaining in the regular season, the Mountaineers now find themselves entering the conversation to host a regional. The Mountaineers have hosted a regional only once, back in 2019 as the No. 15 seed.

Currently, D1Baseball has the Mountaineers in that same spot, projecting them as a host team and the No. 15 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament. They project WVU to face Central Michigan in the first game, with the two-seed being Kentucky and the three-seed being Virginia Tech.

The Mountaineers are ranked 18th in the country by D1Baseball as of Monday,

D1Baseball currently has five Big 12 teams in the field. West Virginia’s RPI is 21st in the country, which is the highest of any Big 12 team.
