Pair of former Mountaineers share moment during XFL’s St. Louis Battlehawks’ win

The St. Louis Battlehawks have two Mountaineers in head coach Anthony Becht and wide receiver Gary Jennings. Those two got to share a special moment in their 21-17 victory on Saturday.

Jennings has not had the largest of opportunities with the Battlehawks as the XFL returned this year. Jennings has only caught four passes all season, none bigger than his 64-yard pass on a fake punt this weekend.

Needing to win the final two games of the regular season in order to make the XFL Playoffs, the Battlehawks turned to some trickery to get the job done. Facing the Vegas Vipers, the Battlehawks trailed 17-8 with just more than five minutes left in the fourth quarter.

That is when from their own 36 yard line, they completed a fake punt on 4th-and-6. Jennings was wide open and was just able to beat the punt returner to the pylon for the touchdown to put the Battlehawks down 17-14. They then tied the game with a field goal in the closing seconds before converting on two two-point conversions to win 21-17 in overtime.
