Longtime college basketball coach and former Mountaineer assistant Billy Hahn passed away on Friday.
The 69-year-old was beloved by many current and former players across the college basketball world. Hahn was an assistant under Bob Huggins from 2007 until the end of the 2017 season.
Hahn played his college ball at Maryland until 1974, and immediately entered the coaching ranks. Hahn was an assistant at Morris Harvey, Davidson, Rhode Island, and Ohio between 1974 and 1986. He got his first head coaching job at Ohio from 1986-1989.
Hahn would then return to Maryland from 1989-2001, including helping recruit many of the players on Maryland’s 2002 national championship team. Hahn would be a head coach at La Salle from 2001 until 2004, before joining Huggins in 2007.
Hahn suffered a heart attack in Morgantown according to his close friend Fran Fraschilla.
The support has been tremendous for Hahn between former players, other coaches, and even current Mountaineers who got to know Hahn over the years.
