West Virginia hiring Mark Kellogg as next women’s basketball head coach

West Virginia women’s basketball has found their next head coach.

Gold and Blue Nation first reported that West Virginia will be hiring Stephen F Austin’s Mark Kellogg as their next women’s basketball head coach.

In eight seasons at SFA, Kellogg has finished with a 195-55 record, and has two NCAA Tournament appearances. In that time, he has never had a season with fewer than 23 wins except for his first with the program.

Kellogg is originally from Richardson, Texas, and has been to nine NCAA Tournament appearances since becoming a head coach in 2005.

Kellogg has familiarity with current West Virginia Director of Athletics Wren Baker as Baker hired Kellogg at Northwest Missouri State in 2012-2013. Kellogg is replacing Dawn Plitzuweit who exited after just one year with the Mountaineers. This will be the third coach to lead West Virginia women’s basketball in the last three seasons.

Following the report from Gold and Blue Nation, WVU made the announcement official.

“Mark Kellogg is an established winner who has made a name for himself by building championship programs and preparing his student-athletes to be leaders on and off the court,” Baker said. “He has had tremendous success at every stop along his coaching career journey and has done so with great integrity.”

Baker added, “What became clear to our search committee was that Mark possesses the work ethic, passion and character traits that will resonate with all West Virginians and the student-athletes in our women’s basketball program. Mark and his wife, Trisha, along with their children Camden and Kayli will make outstanding additions to our community, campus and state.”
