Jose Perez affirms commitment to playing for West Virginia in 2023-2024 season

Jose Perez

West Virginia’s Jose Perez was supposed to be out of eligibility by now. But after the NCAA ruled him ineligible for the 2022-2023 season, they granted him one final year of eligibility. On Friday, as Perez said, he ‘cleared the air,’ making his commitment to playing for the Mountaineers fully known for next season.

In a video posted to his Twitter, Perez says, “it was a tough year for me and the team, things didn’t end the way we wanted to.”

Perez entered the transfer portal following Manhattan’s decision to part ways with their head coach. Perez was now a two-time transfer, as the NCAA wanted to try and limit players like Perez from transferring twice due to a coaching change.

“I want to thank the fans and everybody at West Virginia University for all the love and support,” Perez continued. “It was all felt, it definitely made me get up every morning to get better.”

Perez averaged 18.9 points per game in the 2021-2022 season at Manhattan, and was named the MAAC Preseason Player of the Year. Perez then ended the video saying he will be back next season in a West Virginia uniform.

“And, I’ll be back for the 2023-2024 season,” Perez stated. “Mountaineer Nation, let’s run it back, let’s make a run.”
