Selection Sunday is upon us and for West Virginia men’s basketball, that brings the final Bracketology update before the real thing is released.
The Mountaineers continue to bounce around an eight or nine seed, but the most recent predictions give a more favorable location to WVU than before.
ESPN
Joe Lunardi of ESPN still has the Mountaineers as a 9-seed, but he has them in the East Region, and facing Memphis in the first round. The winner of this game would more than likely face No. 1 Purdue in the second round. Keep in mind though the NCAA Selection Committee will not put two teams who faced each other in non-conference in the first round, and they attempt to avoid second round rematches as well.
Lunardi moved WVU from the South Region (playing in Birmingham), to the East Region (playing in Columbus). With this part of the bracket in Columbus, it would be a spot many Mountaineer fans could travel to.
CBS Sports
Jerry Palm has the exact same prediction as Lunardi. Palm also has WVU in Columbus facing Memphis in the first round with the winner facing Purdue (probably) in the second round. Palm has been the most reserved on WVU over the past month, but it seems like most, he has the Mountaineers on the 8/9 line.
USA Today
USA Today predicts WVU will also be a nine seed. They predict WVU to travel to Birmingham to face No. 8 Maryland, with. the winner facing Alabama in the second round.
Bracket Matrix
Bracket Matrix lists WVU as an 8-seed overall, with their average seed position being, 8.64 in 105 different brackets. The highest seed is a 7, while the lowest seed is a 10.
The Selection Sunday show is at 6 p.m. on CBS.
