West Virginia’s Resume heading into Selection Sunday

West Virginia men’s basketball team is expecting to hear their name called and rightfully so tomorrow on Selection Sunday. WVU, a projected eight or nine seed by most predictions, has earned their place in March, and will find out their destiny tomorrow.

However, the body of work the NCAA Selection Committee will be looking at for the Mountaineers is completed. We take a look at what they will see…

Overall Record: 19-14

Quad 1: 6-13
Quad 2: 6-1
Quad 3: 1-0
Quad 4: 6-0

West Virginia’s record is not in a bad spot. 19 wins (especially in the Big 12) will get you in almost any year. West Virginia has played 19 Quad 1 games which is the sixth-most in the country. There are only 16 teams in the country who have more than six quad one wins, with Kansas having the most at 17.

WVU’s NET ranking is 25th in the country. Out of the 16 teams who have more quad one wins than WVU, 13 of them are ranked higher in the NET than WVU. Keep in mind, WVU’s 2020-2021 team who was a three-seed in the NCAA Tournament, finished with a 7-7 record in quad one games, and finished the NET ranked 22nd.

West Virginia’s strength of schedule is currently ranked fifth by NET metrics. Out of the top 25 teams in the NET, West Virginia has played seven of those teams.
