During Saturday’s men’s basketball game between West Virginia and Kansas State, Mikel Hager was announced as the 69th Mountaineer mascot.
Hager is from Madison, West Virginia, and is a senior exercise physiology major, with a minor in psychology and communication studies.
There were originally four finalists, but after one dropped out, it was between Hager, Braden Adkins, and Christian Adkins.
“Being selected as the Mountaineer mascot would mean the absolute world to me and my small town of Madison,” Hager said. “Representing Mountaineer Nation and the people of West Virginia as the 69th Mountaineer would be a prestigious opportunity.”
Current Mountaineer Mary Roush will continue to finish out her term as Mountaineer before passing the musket to Hager.
