Former West Virginia Mountaineer Joe Mazzulla has officially been named the 19th head coach in Boston Celtics history, while he has also received a contract extension.
Mazzulla was serving as an interim head coach, but the Celtics announced the official move NBA-best 42-17 record.
“As he has shown, Joe is a very talented coach and leader,” Brad Stevens said “He has a unique ability to galvanize a room around a mission. We are thankful for the work he has done to help get us to this point, and excited that he has agreed to lead us into the future.”
Mazzulla took over the reigns after former Celtics head coach Ime Udoka was given a suspension by the team. Mazzulla’s first stop as the official new head coach will be at the NBA All-Star Game, where he will be the head coach of Team Giannis.
