West Virginia men’s basketball team is still on the good side of the bracket.
Two losses in three days certainly have not helped West Virginia, but latest Bracketology updates still give WVU a chance at making the NCAA Tournament.
ESPN’s Bracketology currently lists WVU as a “Last Four Bye’, with the 10-seeded Mountaineers facing Missouri in the 10/7 game. The winner of that game would face the winner of No. 2 Arizona/No. 15 Rider, with the games being played in Sacramento, California.
CBS Sports’ Bracketology has not been updated since WVU’s 79-67 loss to Baylor on Monday. Prior to that outing, the Mountaineers were seen as an 11 seed, facing North Carolina in the First Four games in the South Region in Dayton. The winner of this game would face 6-seeded Illinois in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Stadium predicts WVU will be on the outside looking in of the NCAA Tournament field. The Mountaineers are seen as a ‘First Four Out’ selection and are not in Stadium’s projections.
WVU is currently ranked 25th in the NET, 24th by KenPom, and according to Team Rankings, has a 78.5% chance to make the NCAA Tournament.
All in all, West Virginia has three home games remaining and winning all three of those games should get the Mountaineers into the NCAA Tournament. Any combination of four wins the rest of the season definitely gets the Mountaineers in, but losing two games, both by double-digits, did nothing to help West Virginia’s chances.
