West Virginia baseball is less than a month away from first pitch in the 2022-2023 season.
With the beginning of the season on the horizon, the Big 12 Preseason Poll was released on Thursday. The Mountaineers find themselves picked to finish sixth this year — and the place they finished a season ago.
The top of the Big 12 poll had TCU, receiving five first-place votes, and 61 votes overall. Right behind them was Oklahoma State, a team who received four first-place votes, and 59 overall.
In third was Texas Tech with 48 votes, followed by Texas with 43, and Oklahoma with 38. West Virginia is sixth with 28 votes, while Kansas State, Kansas, and Baylor rounding out the final three spots.
West Virginia is coming off a year in which they finished 33-22 and 14-10 in conference play. The Mountianeers went 0-2 in the Big 12 Tournament and were left on the outside looking in. Oklahoma was in the National Championship series against Ole Miss last year, before the Rebels defeated the Sooners.
West Virginia begins their season on Friday, Feb. 17 against Georgia Southern.
