After promoting Scott, Brown says no decision on play calling duties have been made

Last week, West Virginia football decided to elevate running backs coach and run game coordinator Chad Scott to the role of offensive coordinator. With Scott now in charge of the offense, the attention now turns to who will be on the headset calling plays for West Virginia this fall — wether it be Brown, Scott, or a combination of other coaches on the staff

Elevating Scott had its advantages for the Mountaineers. They added a coordinator who is already respected in the building, but they are also putting the coordinator tag on Scott for the first time in his career. WIth the move to add Blaine Stewart as the tight ends coach, Sean Reagan will move back to be the quarterbacks coach for West Virginia.

Brown, who called plays in his first three years, Scott, or Reagan could all be in line to figure out plays for the Mountaineers.

“As far as play calling, we’re going to kind of maneuver through that as we go through the spring,” Brown said of the plan.

Scott along with Reagan could be in the fold to call plays in some capacity. Brown said last year under former offensive coordinator Graham Harrell, was the first time he has not called plays and he will have more input this season.

“Will I be heavily involved, absolutely,” Brown said of his role with the offense. “But as far as who’s calling plays, is I’m going to wait and see how the spring goes and go from there on that.”

As for Reagan, Brown said he will not be the primary play caller, but he he could work his way to be in the process.

“He’ll be in the box, he was involved last year,” Brown said of Reagan. “He’s cerebral, he’s smart and he won’t be the primary play caller, he will not, but he will be involved in the process.”
