Former West Virginia quarterback led the Seattle Seahawks to a 19-16 win over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, keeping the Seahawks’ playoff hopes alive, while also setting a new franchise record.
Seattle had to win on Sunday in order to still have a chance at making the NFL postseason. Smith and the Seahawks hosted the Rams with Smith throwing for 213 yards, a touchdown, while also throwing two interceptions.
Smith needed just 151 yards to break Russell Wilson’s franchise mark of 4,220 passing yards in a season. Smith did that and now in his first full season as a starter with the Seahawks, Smith is in sole possession of the most passing yards by a quarterback.
Seattle’s win on Sunday afternoon now means they hold the No. 7 seed in the NFC Playoffs. If the Detroit Lions beat the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night, the Seahawks will advance to face the San Francisco 49ers. If the Packers win though, Seattle’s season will be over and Green Bay will be moving on to the playoffs.
